"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, champagne in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!"

Welcome to the website of Kevin Becker & Katherine Calder-Becker

We began our journey on May 24th 2003, with entry into the Early Bird Sprint Triathlon as a team – ‘The Killer B’s’.  Kat was the swimmer, Kev the cyclist and runner.  We were excited to try something new for fun and fitness, but had no idea at the time that this simple step would set us in motion and initiate a series of worldwide adventures.

Our first race was so much fun we signed up for 4 more events that same year, and continued with five more the following year. The Killer B’s were hooked!  In 2005, we decided it was time for us to ramp things up and race as age group individuals, enjoying each event experience along the way. Then, what once seemed impossible soon became a reality – we entered our first Ironman event in 2006 and raced Ironman Canada!

Since then, our racing has taken us to Ironman events in Lake Placid, Panama City Beach Florida, the European Championships in Frankfurt Germany, Cozumel Mexico, Nice France and Florianopolis Brazil, Penticton and Ottawa Canada . As you will see from our photo gallery, we train and race to the best of our abilities, while keeping our objective of 'fun and fitness' always in the mix.

2009 was our Ironman ‘NAFTA’ tour of 3 Ironman’s in 4 months.  After successful races in Lake Placid USA, Ottawa Canada and Cozumel Mexico, we were ready to map out 2010, and take on ‘3 continents in 3 months’!  Our challenge took us to Ironman Brazil in May, followed by Ironman France in June, and then finished with a return trip to Ironman Canada in August to mark our 11th Ironman race!  In November, we took things up a notch and ran the JFK 50 Miler UltraMarathon to round out the season.

2011 has marked yet another significant step in our adventures.  We began the race season with the Boston Marathon in April.  Then raced the Early Bird Sprint Tri, Ottawa River Olympic Tri and the Tupper Lake Tinman 1/2 Ironman...  We figured why make it the 'Killer B's Warped Tour 2011' and race one of each triathlon distance!  With the short stuff behind us, the real fun began at Ultraman Canada! This was a 3 day, individual ultra-endurance triathlon event consisting of a 10K swim, 420.6K bike, and a 84.3K run which was held in Penticton BC July 30, 31 & Aug 1st.  The Ultraman experience exceeded our expectations, and was by far the most enjoyable event we have participated it. Click here to read our complete race report, and check out the great photo's captured by Rick Kent in our photo gallery!  We ended the 2011 'tour' with a return trip to Mexico in November to race Ironman Cozumel.

With the great coaching of Mathieu Sauve and guidance by Pierre Hutsebault at Peak Centre Montreal, we work hard to condition and prepare ourselves for the challenges we face, and strive to improve and learn each and every day.

As we look ahead, we also take time to look back. To savour the road we have traveled, to always remember how fortunate we are to have the spirit and health to adventure out and see new things, meet new people and to "LIVE OUR WHOLE LIVES" each and every day.

We hope you enjoy visiting our site and find something interesting or inspiring from our journey through life and share some of our enthusiasm for the sport we have grown to love so much.

Happy training and racing... hopefully we'll see you out on the course somewhere!

The Rudy Award
We have enjoyed testing ourselves at various race distances and events and have learned of our inner passion for long distance racing.  As part of this journey, and in preparation for the first Ironman event we participated in, we are proud to say that we completed the 'Rudy Award'.  The 'Rudy' was created in 2000 by a local group of Ottawa athletes including Dev Paul, Phil Hunter and Rick Hellard in recognition of the accomplishments of Rudy Hollywood.  Rudy had completed 5 endurance events in the same season as a lead up to Ironman Canada.  Those events consisted of the : Winterlude Triathlon, Keskinada Loppet, Rideau Lakes Tour, a Marathon, and an Ironman distance Triathlon.  To be eligible, all the evens have to be completed in the same calendar year.  In  2006, we both completed our 'Rudy'.  For more information, click here for an article that appeared in the Ottawa Citizen to honour the 2006 award winners.
