"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, champagne in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO what a ride!"

Welcome to the website of Kevin Becker & Katherine Calder-Becker

We began our journey on May 24th 2003, with an entry into the Early Bird Sprint Triathlon as a team – ‘The Killer B’s’.  Kat was the swimmer, Kev the cyclist and runner.  We were excited to try something new for fun and fitness, but had no idea at the time that this simple step would set us in motion and initiate a series of worldwide adventures.

Our first race was so much fun we signed up for 4 more events that same year, and continued with five more the following year. The Killer B’s were hooked!  In 2005, we decided it was time for us to ramp things up and race as age group individuals, enjoying each event experience along the way. Then, what once seemed impossible soon became a reality – we entered our first Ironman event in 2006 and raced Ironman Canada!

Since then, our racing has taken us to Ironman events from Penticton BC, to Lake Placid and Panama City Beach Florida, off to the European Championships in Frankfurt Germany, and down to Cozumel Mexico. As you will see from our photo gallery, we train and race to the best of our abilities, while keeping our objective of 'fun and fitness' always in the mix.

2009 was our Ironman ‘NAFTA’ tour of 3 Ironman’s in 4 months.  After successful races in Lake Placid USA, Ottawa Canada and Cozumel Mexico, we were ready to map out 2010, and take on ‘3 continents in 3 months’!  This year, we will begin with Ironman Brazil in May, followed by Ironman France in June, and finish with a return trip to Ironman Canada in August to mark our 11th Ironman race!  Then we’ll set out to further challenge ourselves at the JFK 50 Miler Ultra Run in November to see where the journey will take us.

With the great coaching of Pierre Hutsebault and Mathieu Sauve at Peak Centre Montreal, we work hard to condition and prepare ourselves for the challenges we face and strive to improve and learn each and every day.

As we look ahead, we also take time to look back. To savour the road we have traveled, to always remember how fortunate we are to have the spirit and health to adventure out and see new things, meet new people and to "LIVE OUR WHOLE LIVES" each and every day.

We hope you enjoy visiting our site and find something interesting or inspiring from our journey through life and share some of our enthusiasm for the sport we have grown to love so much.

Happy training and racing... hopefully we'll see you out on the course somewhere!

The National Capital Triathlon/Duathlon & Runs
In addition to racing, we are the co-race directors for the National Capital Triathlon, Duathlon and 5&10 K runs in Ottawa. This year's event is on Saturday July 31st 2010.  The event is part of the Somersault race Series and we take great pride and pleasure in working the Christine and Terry each year to put this event together.  We find that volunteering in the sport of triathlon is just as rewarding as racing and want to give something back to the great community up in Ottawa that got us started on this wonderful adventure.

The Rudy Award
We have enjoyed testing ourselves at various race distances and events and have learned of our inner passion for long distance racing.  As part of this journey, and in preparation for the first Ironman event we participated in, we are proud to say that we completed the 'Rudy Award'.  The 'Rudy' was created in 2000 by a local group of Ottawa athletes including Dev Paul, Phil Hunter and Rick Hellard in recognition of the accomplishments of Rudy Hollywood.  Rudy had completed 5 endurance events in the same season as a lead up to Ironman Canada.  Those events consisted of the : Winterlude Triathlon, Keskinada Loppet, Rideau Lakes Tour, a Marathon, and an Ironman distance Triathlon.  To be eligible, all the evens have to be completed in the same calendar year.  In  2006, we both completed our 'Rudy'.  For more information, click here for an article that appeared in the Ottawa Citizen to honour the 2006 award winners.
