We began our journey on May 24th 2003, with entry into the Early Bird Sprint Triathlon as a team – ‘The Killer B’s’. Kat was the swimmer, Kev the cyclist and runner. We were excited to try something new for fun and fitness, but had no idea at the time that this simple step would set us in motion and initiate a series of worldwide adventures.
Our first race was so much fun we signed up for 4 more events that same year, and continued with 5 more the following year. The Killer B’s were hooked! In 2005, we decided it was time for us to ramp things up and race as age group individuals, enjoying each event experience along the way. Then, what once seemed impossible soon became a reality – we entered our first Ironman event in 2006 and raced Ironman Canada. It's amazing how a simple thought - to race in a 'team' sprint - can lead to unexpected adventures and life experiences of EPIC proportions!
With each season, came new adventures and challenges. In 2007, we decided to try doing two Ironmans in the same year. That went so well, we did another two in 2008, and in 2009, we took it up a notch and did our ‘NAFTA’ tour of 3 Ironman’s in 4 months - Lake Placid USA, Ottawa Canada and Cozumel Mexico.
2010 was '3 continents in 3 months' - taking on Ironman Brazil, Ironman France and Ironman Canada.
2011 became the 'Killer B's Warped Tour' when we raced one of each distance from Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full - as well as our first Ultraman! Yes - Ultraman - which is a 3 day, individual ultra-endurance triathlon event consisting of a 10K swim, 420.6K bike, and 84.3K run. We took on this personal quest at Ultraman Canada in Penticton BC on July 30, 31 & Aug 1, 2011, and loved every moment of the race experience.
In 2012, our 10th year of racing became the 'Double-Double-Volcano-Tour', with the objective to race in 2 Ironmans and 2 Ultramans in the same year. We kicked things off by taking on the volcano's of Ironman Lanzarote in Spain, then returned to race Ultraman Canada in Aug, followed by Ironman Mont Tremblant 11 days later, with our crowning achievement being the Ultraman World Championships in Kona Hawaii that November. We raced our way to place as the top Male & Female finishers at Ultraman Canada, then onwards to race in the Ultraman World Championships, which earned us recognition as the 2012 Canadian Ultra Distance Male and Female Triathletes of the Year.
Undoubtedly, this was our most challenging and rewarding race experience and left us with a greater sense of both our physical and mental strength. With the 'Double-Double-Volcano-Tour' complete, we marked this special occasion by renewing our wedding vows after the race, surrounded by great athletes and friends - honored to have Steve King oversee the service. This was a time to celebrate!
2013 was a year of reflection for us, time to savor our accomplishments and ease into the race season. We raced on our beloved home course at Ironman Mont Tremblant again, and were also fortunate enough to both be invited to race in Kona again - this time at the Ironman World Championships. We were honored to be given the opportunity to race along side the best triathletes in the world at this iconic event. This was the ultimate Ironman race experience and lived up to it's reputation!
We started 2014 off by racing in the NYC Half Marathon in March, and outright qualified for the 2015 NYC Marathon - fast feet and fast times! In April we did a R2R2R double crossing of the Grand Canyon, taking on a whopping 20,000ft of elevation change over the 50 mile endurance run. In August, we completed our first ever Ironman 3-peat at Ironman Mont Tremblant, and followed that up by racing the Chicago Marathon in October - both setting marathon PB times. We finished the season off with a return to the Big Island in November, and took on the Ultraman World Championships in Hawaii. We were thrilled to have been invited to join this elite group of athletes and share the Aloha, Kokua and Ohana that is the spirit of Ultraman yet again!
Our 2015 Season was sprinkled with fun and laughter with a variety of races and distances in the mix. We did some Half Marathons and Olympic distance racing, then worked our way up into a few Half Ironmans. We were thrilled to be invited back to host Run/Hikes at the Wanderlust Festival in Tremblant, then ran in the New York City Marathon in November as part of the World Majors Tour. We capped off the season by returning to Hawaii to race in our 3rd Ultraman World Championship and close the chapter with a record-breaking 5x Ultraman finishes each.
2016 was mapped out with many more great adventures on the road ahead - with a Boston/London Marathon World Major run focus in April. Then we took on the summer with a fun mix of swim, bike, run, hike and yoga events through into the fall, where we upped the run volume and race in the Vermont 50Miler as preparation for another R2R2R double crossing of the Grand Canyon!
2017 marked the completeion of our 18th Ironman race, and a shift to run focus.
In 2024, we acheived the final goal in our quest - to complete all 6 World Major Marathons : Boston, Chicago, New York, London, Berlin and Tokyo and earn our World Major Marathon Six Star medals. We are proud to have been given the opportunity to run in support of the Tokyo Toy Museum on March 3, 2024 and finally reach our Six Star goal!
We are excited about the great adventures that lay ahead, and we hope to see you out there somewhere - living wide & loving deep!
